In the Flinders - Far North 1951
One of the paintings pictured in the write up was 'Flinder's Ranges Landscape'1956. (L W Thompson Collection NGV) Majestic and soothing in it's beauty, a print of it hung in my house for a period.
They were very lean times and as much as I enjoyed her visual worth, I often entertained the idea, that it could be an original water color. I comforted myself with the thought that if I really needed to, I could sell it! I never took it to be appraised until that period in life was past, and then only to find it was a poster!
It kept me companioned in beauty and hope. It gave me courage. Now, I just look at it in awe of the gentle pastel colors matching striking, natural tones, in one of the early 'advertisements' for our landscape! It's beautiful for beauty's sake.
The exhibition is touring to, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, National Gallery of Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery throughout 2009/10.
